Ria and "senhor Zé"
Today I travelled a long way...inside my city, my harbour, Aveiro! I went to the salt pans and met "senhor Zé", one "marnoto" (man that works in salt pans) that took me back to the 70's when our salt pans produced around 50 tons of salt every year...now it's less than one ton... And in his words...the "price for sale" was in the 70's the same as it is now...and that's why the salt pans are in decline...and abandoned...
After meeting this man I kept wondering around Ria...but that conversation was still in my mind... 80 years ago in India, Ghandi started the "Satyagraha March" (marcha do Sal) for 25 days against the British Empire...no need to remind everything that followed that... But in those days, as in the 70's in Aveiro, salt was very important for local economy., today....it's not...
