Visiting friends&family in Central Europe for 12 days
After 3 years I went back to Serbia to visit friends & family, but decided not only to visit Prague and Vienna on the way, but also to have a special guest during the last 6 days of this journey – my mother.
Prague is the 5th most visited capital in Europe and therefore crowded with tourists. The best moment in Prague was the morning walk made at 6:30am when you are able to travel to the medieval period and be inspired by the beauty of this imperial capital – Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Old Town Square and St Vitus Cathedral.
By train our journey continued to Vienna – the Capital to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We visited Schonbrunn Palace, the Albertina Museum, the Belvedere Museum and therefore had the chance to see incredible works by Picasso, Monet, Klimt, Schiele, Messerschmidt, Warhol and many others. Cycling in Vienna for 1€ was a great way to also visit the Museums Quarter and other beautiful areas and monuments.
And once again, by train, we headed to Budapest where we rented a car to go to Serbia. Already with mum, we started our “slow tourism” journey :) walking around Belgrade under 39 degrees, having dinner and a drink at Skadarlija, having coffee&cake at Hotel Moskva or a drink in Zemun, always in good company. Family gatherings in Zrenjanin, Melenci and Novi Sad for 3 days, just before heading to our last destination – Budapest.
After 9 years I returned to Budapest and was impressed by the cleaner, more friendly and trendy city. As monumental as Vienna, the Danube gives to Budapest a more colorful and imposing “look”. The Parliament, the Chain Bridge, Gellert Thermal Bath, St. Stephen's Basilica, the Market are some of the places worth visiting. Our journey ended with Coffee&Cake for my mum’s 79th anniversary at the impressive New York Café.
