Interior de Portugal / Portugal’s Interior
Tanta beleza aqui tão perto / So much beauty, so closeby
Two different weekends to explore Arouca new “Paiva Walkways” and to discover one of the 27 Schist Villages of Centro Region of Portugal, Gondramaz.
In Arouca we had one day to make the 8,7km Paiva Walkway. The weather wasn’t perfect, but the path was. It’s a trilling walkway surrounded by beautiful landscapes along the rivers Areinho and Espiunca. Since it was recently opened, it was overcrowded and surely in some months it can be an even more relaxing and unique experience. A walk to be repeated, in summer, spring or even winter.
In the following weekend one of the 27 Schist Villages, Gondramaz was the destination. The “Mountain Whisper” Rural accommodation is brilliant and the perfect spot to explore the nature around Gondramaz. We made a 10km route up and down the hill, encountering beautiful waterfalls and occasionally some deers. In the way home, the visit to "Parque Biológico da Serra da Lousã", was an unexpected nice surprise.
We can travel the world in search of new cultures, monuments, histories and landscapes, but it’s always important to remember, that one of the most beautiful countries in the world you can ever explore, is right here, it’s Portugal.
